Understanding Paper Weight:
Paper weight is measured in grams per square meter (gsm) or pounds (lbs). It indicates the thickness and sturdiness of the paper. We will use pounds (lbs) here.
Common Printer Paper: Household printers can handle standard printer paper, which is usually around 20 lbs to 32 lbs. This paper is ok for coloring with pencils, but will bleed and wrinkle with markers. It’s ok to use in a pinch.
Heavier Paper: For coloring while preventing marker bleed-through, opt for paper between 50-70 lbs. Always check what your household printer can handle. This thickness can handle markers without ink seeping through. Some printers will have manual paper feeders and those might be able to handle even heavier paper or card-stock without a problem.
 
Unzipping Your File: 
To access your digital files, you'll need an unzipping program. We recommend using 7ZIP, which is easy to use and free to download.
Download and install the unzipping software of your preference. We use 7 ZIP (https://www.7-zip.org/), but you can use the one you like.
Once installed, right-click the zipped file you received and select "Extract" or "Extract Here" using the software.
Your files will be extracted and ready to use.
 
Opening Files on iPad with Procreate:
If you're using an iPad and want to use these files with Procreate, follow these steps:
Download the files to your iPad or transfer them from your computer.
Open the Procreate app.
Tap the "+" symbol to create a new canvas.
In the canvas options, select "Import" and choose the file you want to work with.
You're all set to start your creative journey on your iPad with Procreate!
 
Procreate Tips: Preserving Your Original File
When working with our digital files in Procreate, it's good practice to create a duplicate of the layer containing your drawing. Be aware that the original image is editable, so if you delete or change something, it could be permanent. This ensures you always have an untouched version of your artwork.
Here's how:
After importing the JPEG file into Procreate, locate the layer containing your artwork.
Swipe the layer to the left and tap the "Duplicate" option that appears.
Alternatively, before importing the JPEG, you can make a copy of it within your iPad's files or gallery. This way, you'll always have the original file at hand for reference or future use.
These steps will help you maintain the integrity of your artwork while exploring your creativity in Procreate.
 
You can, of course, use any drawing program you desire. Just check your manual to see how to import JPEGS or PNGS and how to work on them. In any program you use, make sure to make and color a copy of your file.
